Larry Christley, a program manager at the Tennessee Department of Environment and Convservation's Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste Management, will discuss the economics of recycling and how important it is to the Tennessee economy. "We have a choice when we are done consuming items and also have the leftover packaging. The choice is to dispose of this material and forever entomb it in a landfill or we can join the manufacturing process and recycle. By recycling we provide needed feedstock that fuels Tennessee industries. Over 30 of these industries employ well over 4,500 Tennesseeans," says Christley.

Crystal Mallery, President of Recycle Rutherford also reminds everyone that the organization is conducting a phone book recycling campaign in cooperation with YP, publisher of the Real Yellow Pages phone directories, and the Rutherford County Solid Waste Department. Teachers can earn $200 cash prizes for their classrooms by having their students collect and recycle phone books at any recycling center in the county. After the classes collect the phone  books, the teacher can email the number of phone books recycled torecyclerutherford@yahoo.com.
