Serious Auto Accident on Broad St. in Murfreesboro

At 6:30 Wednesday morning, Murfreesboro Police officers were called to N.W. Broad Street near Bumpus Harley Davidson in reference to a serious injury vehicle crash.

Sgt. Kyle Evans with the Murfreesboro Police Department told WGNS that Investigators believe a Dodge Caravan being driven by 34-year old Jeffrey Barrett of Murfreesboro, was traveling northwest on Broad Street, lost control of the vehicle and struck a silver Olds Alero being driven by 57-year old Paul Underwood.

Underwood, who lives on Lascassas Highway in Murfreesboro, was also traveling northwest on Broad Street. Barrett crossed the median into the southeast lanes of Broad Street. A Honda Odyssey driven by 57-year old Martha Carpenter, was traveling southeast on Broad Street and struck Barrett's Caravan on the passenger side.

Barrett, who was in the Caravan, and a secondary passenger in the Honda Odyssey, suffered severe injuries and were flown by Life Flight Helicopter to Vanderbilt Medical Center. The driver and two additional passengers from the Honda Odyssey were also transported to Vanderbilt by ambulance with minor injuries. Underwood was not injured in the crash. 

The Fatal Accident Crash Team is investigating the crash.

A serious auto accident has been reported in Murfreesboro. The wreck occurred at about 6:30 Wednesday morning. The crash was in the area of Bumpus Harley Davidson on North West Broad Street. 

Sgt. Kyle Evans with the Murfreesboro Police Department told WGNS News: 

"Around 6:30 a.m. this morning MPD officers were dispatched to NW Broad Street near 2250 NW Broad Street in reference to a serious injury crash.  Life Flight was called to the scene to transport at least two people with serious injuries to Vanderbilt Medical Center.  The Fatal Accident Crash Team is investigating the crash."

Two cars were involved in the accident. One car was in the woods and another was on the roadway. 

The Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department told WGNS on Wednesday morning: 

Four patients were transported from a two car motor vehicle accident that occurred around 6:30 Wednesday morning on NW Broad Street just past Bumpus Harley Davidson.

Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s District 7 and Rescue 9 responded to the scene. According to Shift Commander Daryl Alexander, crews had to extricate one victim.

Two patients were taken via Life-Flight to Vanderbilt Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Two additional patients were transported to VMC via ambulance by Rutherford County EMS.

The inbound lanes of NW Broad Street are expected to be closed for the next few hours. Traffic is being rerouted to the outbound lanes and has been reduced to one lane for inbound and one for outbound.

Murfreesboro Police Department is on scene investigating. All inquiries for accident details shall be made to MPD.
