Severe Weather Awareness Week

It's Severe Weather Awareness Week in Tennessee. While severe weather ramps up in the spring, Middle Tennessee has already seen the second-highest number of tornadoes in a month ever recorded. And, it happened in January. On the 30th, 22 tornadoes, including an E-F-1 in Eagleville, raked through the mid-state landscape. Throughout the week, TEMA, the National Weather Service, Tennessee Association of Broadcasters and other supporting groups will conduct educational activities and drills to help people prepare for tornadoes, damaging winds, flash floods, lightning and hail. The NWS will conduct this year’s statewide tornado drill around 9am local time this Wednesday. During severe weather, WGNS is always here to provide up to the minute information. We break into programming to alert you of weather watches and warnings. In addition, WGNS will send text alerts to your cell phone of severe weather bulletins.
