Both Haley and Brooks were selected based on their recommendations, grade point average, ACT scores and an essay on “How I Would Improve School Safety.”

Haley mentioned having all students have identification tags with a bar code and photography to allow them to enter the school.

Brooks suggested having mandatory classes for sixth grade students and freshmen to learn about the harm of drugs, how to notice signs of violence and suicidal tendencies, the importance of school, how school safety procedures work at school and other precautionary information.

He recommended orientation for parents on ways to prevent school violence.

Haley will attend MTSU while Brooks will attend the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

This is the 11th year the SROs have contributed their own money to pay for the scholarships. This is the second year to fund two scholarships.
