An off duty Murfreesboro Police Officer who was working as security at Aspen Heights Apartments made contact with a Honda Accord trying to enter the property and later made an arrest.

Reports indicate 23-year-old Joshua R. Howard was driving the car that Officer Darryl Sanders said smelled like marijuana. Police conducted a "Probable Cause Search" of the car due to the smell of weed.

Inside the car police found two one gallon plastic zip-lock bags with marijuana residue inside. Also in the car was a backpack that contained a 9mm handgun and 2.3 ounces of marijuana. Police also seized a magazine inside the backpack that did not match the handgun found in the bag. The gun magazine evidently went to a rifle that was found in the trunk of the car.

In the front passenger seat, police located hairnets and rubber gloves. In the backseat, police found a black ski mask.

Due to the suspicious items found in the car along with the weapons, detectives were called to the scene.

Mr. Howard was arrested and charged with manufacturing, delivery or sale of marijuana, unlawful possession of a weapon in the commission of a felony and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is due in court on April 18, 2017.
