Smyrna Officers Respond to Car Accident and Find Shooting Victim - Arrest Made

VERBATIM:

On December 20th the Smyrna Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Sam Ridley Parkway and I-24.  One of the occupants of the vehicle had been shot and was being driven to the hospital by a friend when the accident occurred. The victim was identified as 20-year old Pierre Burns of Smyrna. Police sauy the shooting occurred at Deerfield Inn located on Courier Place in Smyrna.  Burns  and a witness say, the two were sitting in a vehicle when Burns was shot.

On Friday, the Smyrna Police Department confirmed the arrest of 26-year old Jeremy L. Rivers of Smyrna. Rivers has been charged with one count of Especially Aggravated Robbery in connection with the shooting. Bond is set at $100,000.  Robert Rickman WGNS news.

The suspect will make his first court appearance on January 6, 2014 at 1:30pm in Smyrna General Sessions Court. Smyrna Police Chief Kevin Arnold told WGNS in an email, “The Smyrna Police Department is still in the process of investigating this Class A Felony and are hopeful that more individuals will be charged very soon.”

Mr. Burns was treated and has since been released from Vanderbilt Hospital.
