Some Say Economic Slowdown Turning…But Criminals Still Get The Word
October 6, 2008
Some financial experts say the slow economy is gradually starting to turn. One point of proof is found with lower gas prices. Political analysts report, the fact that this is a presidential election year will positively impact the turn-around. It will not be an instant transition, but forecasters feel areas of the country that were least impacted will see the turn-around first. The stock market will go through a series of wildly fluctuating ups and downs before a solid upward climb. An MTSU study shows that local consumers are optimistic about our future economy! On the opposite side, police are watching for an increase in crime. This past weekend alone saw reports in the county of almost $42-grand in money and belongs stolen from rural Rutherford County homes. To avoid drawing an electronic “X” on certain homes, WGNS has chosen not to identify the victims or their addresses. However, the sheriff has notified pawn shops to watch for a pearl ring, a ring with 5-diamonds around an amethyst, a blue diamond ring, two Movado watches, and several other precious stone rings. Robbers didn’t limit their take to jewelry. An Arctic Cat four-wheeler mysteriously rolled away. some Dell laptop computers, a flat-screen TV and more. If you feel someone is trying to fence stolen goods, call the Rutherford County Sheriffs Office at 898-7770. If you prefer, call your tip to CrimeStoppers and be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 if your information leads to an arrest and conviction. Phone 893-STOP (7867). Murfreesboro Police Major Clyde Adkison says, “The old saying of no honor among thieves is holding true. Accurate tips phoned to CrimeStoppers are up dramatically, and so are the cash rewards being paid out.” And yes, CrimeStoppers takes financial donations from the public.
