Special Kids Race early registration rate ends Thursday

Organizers of the Special Kids Race remind area runners that only a few days remain until late registration prices take effect for the 4th Annual Special Kids Race.

The early registration discount of $40 for the 15K and $35 for the 5K will expire Thursday and increase by $5 on January 16. Participants can register before the discount expires online at specialkidsrace.org.

The 4th Annual Special Kids 15K and 5K Race and 1-mile Fun Walk will be Saturday March 21st. It is presented by Murfreesboro Medical Clinic & Surgicenter (MMC).

The Special Kids Race is an annual event existing to support local nonprofit Special Kids Therapy and Nursing Center. The run has grown to be one of the largest races in Murfreesboro, with 3,000 participants expected in this year's event. Reenactors from the Stones River Battlefield will fire a cannon to give participants a memorable start for the second consecutive year. Runners and walkers will also be awarded finishing medals by children from Special Kids.

Special Kids is joined again in 2015 by founding and presenting sponsor Murfreesboro Medical Clinic and Surgicenter. Several other businesses have decided to partner to help the children including Tiffany Lane, MaxShred, Newk's, Stewart's Special Events, Ascend Federal Credit Union, A Step Ahead, Fleet Feet Murfreesboro, St. Thomas Rutherford, Little Guys Movers, Wegmann Automotive, Franklin Synergy Bank, City Auto, Once Upon a Child, Bill Taylor Bushido Karate, Pure Barr, TOA, Dr. Rachel Jonson, Adam's Place, Murfreesboro Surgical Specialist, Slick Pig, Murfreesboro Pulse, Sam's Club, Nissan, Elizabeth Allen, and Fast Signs.

Special Kids is a Christian therapy and nursing center for children with special needs. The Murfreesboro-based ministry started with one child in 1998 and has grown to serve over 2,700 children from 18 counties in middle Tennessee.
