Special Kids Raises $63,000 MORE THAN LAST YEAR!

Special Kids announced at its sponsor recognition breakfast Thursday that the 2nd Annual Special Kids Race raised over $177,000 for the local nonprofit. The event presented by Murfreesboro Medical Clinic (MMC) raised $63,000 more than its inaugural year in 2012.

“I’m amazed at how the community came together to create such large impact for Special Kids,” said Stephanie Folkmann, Special Kids Director of Development. “It makes me excited to see what can happen next year.”

The sold-out event reached its cap of 3,000 participants two weeks before the race date. After the inaugural race sold out with 2,300 participants in 2012, race organizers decided to increase the limit by 700 to allow for more participants in each of the three race distances- 15K, 5K, and 1 mile.

Sponsors for the event enjoyed a breakfast hosted by MMC and were recognized for their contributions that helped to cover event expenses. Lindsey Fournier, mother of Special Kids child Ruby, shared with the group about how the organization had impacted her family. Special Kids also recognized top fundraisers in the impact Special Kids program including Team James Ayer Force for the group category and Brenda Lamb for the individuals category.

The Special Kids Race was presented by its founding sponsor Murfreesboro Medical Clinic. Platinum sponsors included Middle Tennessee Medical Center, Stewart’s Special Events, Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q, Walker & Dunlop, and Fleet Feet Sports. Gold Sponsors for the event were Jason’s Deli, Max Shred, A Step Ahead, Bill Taylor’s Bushido School of Kate, Little Guys Movers, Nissan,  Newk’s Express Cafe, Wild Flours, The Oaks Shopping Center, New Vision Church, and HobNob Murfreesboro. The 2014 Special Kids Race date will be announced in the summer of 2013.
