The local RECYCLE RUTHERFORD group will honor three local businesses with the First Annual Spirit of Recycling Awards dinner at 6:00 o'clock Monday evening, June 18, 2018, at the Carriage Lane Inn, 337 East Burton Street.

Congratulations to Rich Products Corp., Mahle Filter Systems and Cardinal Health.

Recycle Rutherford President Rachel Cornett explained, "Those local businesses are receiving the awards in recognition of their outstanding recycling practices. They were chosen by vote of the Recycle Rutherford members."

Recycle Rutherford hopes to make the Spirit of Recycling awards an annual event. In fact, the dinner will include board members telling about the importance of recycling for Murfreesboro and Rutherford County communities.

Board member Glenn Himebaugh noted, "As the Middle Point Landfill in Walter Hill rapidly nears its capacity, recycling becomes an even more important part of the solution."

Recycling simply has not become a part of the lifestyle in America as it is in Europe. Now that countries who have previously accepted the USA's abundance of plastic packaging are now saying NO--a change might begin as a necessity.

Not only are Americans being forced to practice recycling with end dates of landfills like the one here, but beause China and other countries who have received some of our waste are now saying "NO", we may soon be seeing a change in the packaging of products sold in the United States.
