Springs Magic Creates Challenge for Motorists

Spring's magic is about to be in full bloom, and Traffic Engineer Ram Balachandran notes that construction projects will bring challenges to 'Boro motorists. He gives specifics on areas to avoid between now and March 31.

City Construction Projects

Bridge over Broad Street TDOT Project (Est Substantial Completion March 2018)

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday, Bridge is opened and nearing completion. Traffic has been shifted onto the bridge and traffic signal and incidental work continues. There will be minor lane closures on NW Broad Street, Memorial Blvd and Old Fort Pkwy the on-off ramps. There will be lane shifts and traffic interruptions. Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.

Middle Tennessee Widening Project (Greenland Dr to E Main St) (Est Substantial Completion August 2018)

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday: Traffic on Middle Tennessee Blvd is reduced to two-lanes two-way between Bell St and Greenland Dr. E Lytle St is closed at Middle Tennessee Blvd. The section of E Lytle St between N Bilbro Ave and Middle Tennessee Blvd is only open to local traffic. Median construction and traffic signal work continues between Bell St and Greenland Dr. Appropriate traffic control will be in place.

Rutherford County Judicial Center Project (between Burton St and Lytle St) (Est Substantial Completion June, 2018)

Expected Lane Closures: Wednesday, July 20, 2016 - June 30, 2018: As part of the Rutherford County Judicial Center construction, Burton St between Maple St and Church St is closed to traffic for roadway improvements. The intersection of Church St & Burton St and Church St and Lytle St are closed for roadway improvement and traffic signal work. Traffic is be detoured onto College St. Traffic signal installation work continues. Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.

W Lytle Street Roadway Improvement Project (Baker St to Church St) (Est Substantial Completion August 2018)

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday: W Lytle St is closed between Maple St & Church St and Church St is closed between W Lytle St and E Burton St. Access driveways to local businesses will be kept open. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Haynes Dr Turn Lane Improvement Project at Haynes Dr and Sulphur Springs Road (Est Substantial Completion March 2018)

Expected Lane Closures: Thursday & Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm: The Contractor for the City of Murfreesboro will be paving the new eastbound right turn lane on Haynes Dr at Sulphur Springs Rd. There will be lane closures and traffic interruptions for final pavement markings work. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Private Development Utility/Roadway Improvement Project

  1. Fortress Blvd just south of John R Rice Blvd/Manson Pike
  2. Medical Center Pkwy just west of Robert Rose Dr

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm: Contractors for private developments will have lane closures for utility/roadway improvement work on Fortress Blvd and near John R Rice Blvd and on Medical Center Pkwy near Robert Rose Dr. There will be lane shifts and traffic interruptions intermittently. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Murfreesboro Water Resources Sewer Rehabilitation Work

  1. Bell St at Maney Ave - 3/29
  2. Maney Ave at Forrest St - 3/29
  3. Maney Ave at Evergreen St - 3/30
  4. 411 W Clark - 3/29 & 3/30

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm: Weather Permitting, Contractor for Murfreesboro Water Resources Department will be performing sewer rehabilitation work. There will be lane closures and traffic interruptions. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Private Development Sewer Line Crossing Project (Cushing Ave between DeJarnette Lane and Walking Dr)

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday: Contractors for a private development will have Cushing Ave closed for sewer line crossing work between DeJarnette Lane and Walking Dr. Traffic will be detoured onto Walking Dr, Bear Paw Ln and Mission Ridge Dr. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Annual City Street Paving Project

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM: City contractors will be raising castings, milling and paving on the following streets:

  1. Haynes Dr at Sulphur Springs Rd
  2. Andrew Jackson Blvd between Central Valley Rd and Alamo Dr
  3. Horncastle Dr between Dill Ln and Cul-de-Sac
  4. Holbeach Dr at Horncastle Dr
  5. MTCS Dr between Memorial Blvd and Northfield Blvd
  6. St Ives Dr between Timber Creek Dr and St Ives Ct
  7. Boyd Dr, Cornelius Dr and Tabitha St
  8. Cason Lane between Veterans Pkwy and Eldin Creek Dr

Expect lane shifts and traffic interruptions. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.
