A Rutherford County school resource officer was charged with public intoxication Wednesday by Murfreesboro Police.

Officer Jeffery Carroll reports Wednesday, he responded to 1200 Conference Center Blvd. in reference to a disturbance and intoxicated subject. Upon arrival, he reports making contact with a member of the Hotel staff who stated Daniel Thomas was sitting at the Bar, throwing up in a trash can. The hotel worker also reported Thomas caused a disturbance in the lobby with a guest, and then refused to leave the bar.

Hotel staff additionally told Officer Carroll the bar tender refused to serve Thomas due to his level of intoxication, and that he began to throw up.

Officer Carroll reports while walking to his vehicle, Thomas attempted to exit a sliding glass door, but ran into a closed glass door and held onto him for balance. He added Thomas had slurred speech and due to his level of intoxication, determined he was a danger to himself.

Thomas is assigned to Holloway High School.

Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh said Thomas was placed on administrative leave after the arrest. The Sheriff's Office is investigating.

Thomas was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and was released on $250 bond. A hearing is set Jan. 24 in General Sessions Court.
