It took about a year to complete the massive renovations at the St. Clair Street Senior Center, but now it has re-opened and offers a variety of programs for the health, education, and enjoyment of residents who are 60-years of age or older. It is in the same location--325 St. Clair Street, next to Westbrooks Towers, and it is owned and operated by the City of Murfreesboro.

Aroma of Fresh Coffee

The aroma of fresh coffee hits you as you walk into the facility. There are three coffee counters throughout the facility. Each has comfortable tables and chairs for the patrons to relax and visit with friends.

One member described the new facility as having the appearance of a resort. There is no membership fee to be a member, but you must have a card to take advantage of the programs and services. Rigsby explained why . . .

Re-Opening Ceremony July 28

St. Clair Director Connie Rigsby said there will be a formal Grand Re-opening with the mayor and other dignitaries giving talks will be on Friday afternoon July 28th at 2:00 o'clock, but she stressed that the facility is totally open and operating at this time.

To give all of you a feel for the facility, Rigsby gave us a tour of the new St. Clair Street Senior Center.

High Technology

The new multi-purpose room is packed with new technology . . .

Technology is extended to computer labs where senior citizens learn more about laptops, computers and smart phones.

Health, Education, Art and Fun

The totally renovated St. Clair Street Senior Center also offers a variety of health services and educational programs.

A special new area is set aside for people who wish to do jigsaw puzzles, play cards, billiards, dance, or simply reading a book.

Today's 60 Is Yesterday's 40

The St. Clair Street Senior Center is designed to serve the needs of the new age 60-plus resident. In fact, studies show that the attitudes and health of today's 60 year old is more like those of were 40 in earlier years.

The St. Clair Street Senior Center has 29-thousand square feet and serves 8,000 seniors, with 35-hundred attending on a regular basis. That make the Murfreesboro facility one of the largest in the state. Sixty to seventy-five per cent of the activities and programs are free. Plus, a large library offers a great place to read or check-out books.

The St. Clair facility is open Monday through Fridays starting at 8:00 each morning until 4:30 in the afternoons. Saturday hours are 10:00AM until 2:00 in the afternoon, with the ability to expand for special events.
