State Representative Joe Carr Named Chair of House Small Business Committee

Rep. Joe Carr 48th District State Representative Joe Carr has been appointed Chairman of the House Small Business Subcommittee. The Lascassas Republican continues to serve on the House Commerce Committee, State & Local Committee, and the House State Government Subcommittee.

House Speaker Kent Williams (R-Elizabethton) said, “He was chosen for his work ethic, his 25 years of owning a small business, and his willingness to help strengthen the small businesses in our state. He will bring firsthand small business experience to the committee and help us make Tennessee more appealing to entrepreneurs.”

Along with his brother, Patrick, Joe founded Precision Concepts, Inc. in August of 1990. It is a product and tooling design engineering company. With the help of a small loan and a lot of hard work, they grew Precision Concepts into a multi-million dollar engineering company.

The Rutherford County legislator was recently honored with the prestigious “Freshman of the Year” award from the Knoxville News Sentinel. He was chosen because of his determination and diplomacy in his legislative efforts.

Carr has also been recognized by The Century Council, a national not-for-profit organization funded by distillers dedicated to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking, for his outstanding commitment to fighting underage drinking.  Representative Carr was one of only 12 state legislators from across the country to be honored for his ongoing dedication.

In addition to being a small business owner, Representative Carr is a member of the National Federation of Independent Businesses, the National Rifle Association, National Right to Life, Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, and Middle Tennessee Business Future 50

Joe Carr is a past treasurer of the Murfreesboro Lions Club and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He is married and has three children. Representative Carr earned a B.S. degree from Middle Tennessee State University where he has also completed 60 + hours of graduate work. The Lascassas Republican represents the 48th House district which includes part of Rutherford County.
