A world of educational and cultural opportunities awaits MTSU students at the 2013 Study Abroad Fair.

The Office of Education Abroad will host the fair, which is free and open to the public, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, in the lobby of the Student Union.

“We will have more than 30 tables of information on program and country options, scholarships and financial aid,” said Tiffany Bickers, director of the office. “MTSU faculty, program representatives and study-abroad returnees will be on hand to answer questions.”

In addition, five 30-minute informational sessions are scheduled to explain various aspects of planning to study in other countries. Sessions will take place in Room 210 of the Student Union. They are:

• “Global Career-Building Internships,” 10 a.m.;
• “Studying Abroad with No Previous Foreign Language Skills,” 10:30 a.m.;
• “Fulbright/Boren/Gilman Scholarships,” 11:30 a.m.;
• “International Service-Learning Opportunities,” 12:30 p.m.; and
• “Fulbright/Boren/Gilman Scholarships,” 1 p.m.

MTSU offers more than 500 study-abroad program options in 65 countries. The minimum grade-point average for participation on an MTSU education abroad approved program is 2.5 overall combined for the semester/academic year or 2.0 overall combined for the summer or other short term. Exceptions can be requested through the Office of Education Abroad and the Vice Provost for International Affairs.

The next “Study Abroad 101” information session for students who want to learn the basics of international education is slated for 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in Room 221 of the Student Union.
