Summer's Fleeing Fast--Road Crews Ramp Up!

Remember the old songs about summertime, or back to school favorites like "See You In September"? How quickly those lazy, crazy days of summer fly. City Traffic Engineer Ram Balachandran agrees as this is prime time for construction projects. Here's where to avoid in the 'Boro today through August 2nd.

City Construction Projects

Joe B Jackson Pkwy Construction Project (I-24 and S Church Street)

Expected Lane Closures:  Monday through Friday: 8:30 am to 4:00 pm:  Traffic on Joe B Jackson Pkwy between S Church Street and County Farm Road is shifted to the south side and the contractor will be working on the north side.  Sidewalk and driveway ramp construction work continues on Joe B Jackson Pkwy.  There will be incidental lane closures traffic interruptions for stone and concrete deliveries between 7 am and 8 am.  Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.

Overall Creek Elementary School Roadway Project (Veterans Pkwy at Mooreland Lane)

Expected Road Closures:  Monday through Friday:  Incidental construction and utility work continues at Veterans Pkwy and Kingdom Dr aka Mooreland Lane.  Traffic pattern has changed on Mooreland Lane which now connects Kingdom Dr.  Paving work continues on Otter Trail, Charity Lane and Kingdom Dr.  Proper traffic controls will be in place.

Veterans Pkwy aka Kimbro Road Widening Project (Barfield Road to Saint Andrews Drive)

Expected Lane Closures:  Monday through Friday:  6:30 am to 4:30 pm:  Placing shot rock fill material on the south side of Veterans Pkwy in the area of traffic shift.  Utility pole installations continues between Yeargan Rd and Cason Lane.  There will be incidental lane closures and traffic interruptions (trucks entering and exiting the job site). Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Memorial Blvd Walmart Project (just north of Airport Road)

Expected Lane Closures:  Monday through Friday & Sunday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm:  The Traffic Signal Contractor for the project will be installing traffic signal pole foundations.  Southbound traffic on Memorial Blvd will be reduced to one lane at Airport Road.  Northbound traffic will not be affected.  Traffic on Airport Road is shifted to the south side and the contractor will be working on the north side.  On Sunday, July 27, 6 pm to 6 am, signal contractor will be installing loop detection on Memorial Blvd.  There will be lane closures and traffic interruptions.  Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.

Bridge over Broad Street TDOT Project

Expected Lane Closures:  Monday through Friday, 8:00 pm to 5:00 am:  There will be alternating lane closures on NW Broad Street, Ridgley Road and W College Street for underground utility crossings.  There will be lane shifts and traffic interruptions.  Broadmor Blvd is closed to traffic at Memorial Blvd for utility crossing construction work.  Broadmor Blvd can still be accessed from NW Broad Street.  W Lytle Street is also closed to traffic at NW Broad Street for construction work.  Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Innsbrooke Blvd Turn Lane Improvement Project

Expected Lane Closures:   Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm: The contractor for Kroger Development will be adding double left turn lane and median improvement on Innsbrooke Blvd at S Church Street.  There will be lane restrictions and traffic interruptions during construction.  Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.

Memorial Blvd Mill and Overlay TDOT Project (between Byrd Ave and Thompson Lane/Compton Lane)

Expected Lane Closures:  Monday through Friday: 8:00 pm to 5:00 am: The contractor for TDOT will be cold planning, signalization and paving operations between Byrd Ave and Thompson Lane.  There will be alternating lane closures and traffic interruptions.  One lane will remain open in each direction on Memorial Blvd.  Appropriate traffic controls and will be in place. 

Southwest Force Main Project (W College Street/Old Nashville Highway)

Expected Lane Closures:  Monday through Friday:  Contractor for Water &Sewer Department will be installing force sewer main lines W College St between Thompson Lane and Garrison Dr.  Garrison Drive at W College Street will be reduced to one lane with flagging operation.  Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.

Annual City Street Paving Project

Expected Lane Closures:  Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM:  City milling and paving crews will be working on the following streets:  Expect lane shifts and traffic interruptions during these operations.

Woodlands St, Graybar Ave, Blair Dr, Hilldale Dr, Idlewood Dr, Kenneth Dr, Independence Way, Chesapeake Circle, Longmeadows Drive, New Castle Drive and Inverness Drive, Quail Chase Cove, Oakleigh Cove, Lawncrest, Valleywood Cove, Rolling Oak Cove
