Swearing-In Ceremony at City Hall Rotunda

General Sessions Judge Toby Gilley will swear-in newly elected Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland and council members, Madelyn Scales Harris, Rick LaLance, Ronnie Martin during a special ceremony at 6:00 o'clock Thursday night (9/6/2018) in the City Hall Rotunda.

This election and swearing-in will fill all seats on the Murfreesboro City Council. In December 2016, Vice Mayor Doug Young passed away after a long battle with cancer. At that time, Council decided to leave the seat vacant until the outcome of the August 2, 2018 election when a candidate could fill the seat for a full four-year term. Doing so avoided the need to hold a special election that would have cost an estimated $61,000, according to Rutherford County Election administrator Alan Farley.

The top three votes received in the Council election were: Madelyn Scales Harris, 9,014, Rick LaLance, 7,476 and Ronnie Martin, 7,267. Incumbent Mayor Shane McFarland, who ran unopposed, received 15,671 votes.

Judge Gilley is no stranger to the business of the Murfreesboro City Council, as he served the community for 13-years.

Again, the public is invited to attend this event in the rotunda of the Murfreesboro City Hall at 6:00 o'clock Thursday evening, September 6th. City Hall is at 111 West Vine Street, next to the Linebaugh Library.
