Jesse Caldwell (DOB 6-10-94)

At the request of 16th District Attorney General Jennings Jones, TBI Special Agents continue to investigate the circumstances of an officer-involved shooting late Sunday (1/28/18) morning in Murfreesboro.

Preliminary information indicates several law enforcement agencies in Rutherford and Bedford counties were involved in efforts to arrest 23 year old Jesse Caldwell on warrants charging him in connection to several crimes over the past week.

On Sunday, after spotting a vehicle authorities suspect Caldwell stole, officers from the Murfreesboro Police Department pursued the suspect to the 500 block of Twin Oak Drive.

It's not clear why a shot was fired, but the window in the suspect's vehicle was shattered. Caldwell was not hit by the bullett, but he did receive minor injuries from the broken glass. He was treated at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

Upon being released from the Emergency Room, he was booked at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

Police were originally on the lookout for Caldwell after he was accused of stealing two guns from a home after a fight with the homeowner this past Friday.

As policy, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents. Reports indicate that no police officers were injured in the incidents.

TBI Agents continue to gather any and all relevant interviews and evidence. Throughout the investigative process, findings will be shared with the District Attorney General for his further review and consideration. NewsRadio WGNS will keep you informed.
