TBI ROLLS OUT TENNESSEE DRUG DIVERSION TASK FORCE
June 9, 2008
Today the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is launching the Tennessee Drug Diversion Task Force (TDDTF) which will provide support and training for law enforcement across the state to turn up the heat on people who illegally dispense, obtain or misuse prescription medications. Training for working prescription drug cases is being held today and tomorrow at TBI Headquarters for middle Tennessee Law Enforcement. Training is also scheduled at other locations throughout the state during the next month.
The TDDTF is a partnership between local, state and federal law enforcement, governmental state agencies and healthcare professionals dedicated to the safe and proper use of prescription medication.
Its mission is to prevent the illegal distribution, abuse or unintended use of prescription drugs in Tennessee through awareness, training, and networking with law enforcement, regulatory agencies, healthcare providers and the private sector.
Prescription drug diversion is emerging as the biggest problem law enforcement is facing throughout the state. The state has been divided into four quadrants each containing a regional task force where law enforcement can be most successful battling prescription drug diversion at the local level. Drug diversion is the abuse or misuse of prescription medication and includes a patient selling prescription medication, forging a prescription to receive prescription drugs or dispensing medication for personal gain or non-medical purposes.
The TDDTF is in the process of setting up a hotline to report criminal activity related to prescription drugs and a website for law enforcement and public use.
