Did you know that Wednesday, October 10th was the annual celebration of "Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day?

The Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) promotes the 18th annual celebration of "Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day," a national campaign to unite the country in achieving one full-day of zero traffic deaths.

"This time last year, Tennessee experienced 807 traffic fatalities statewide," said THSO Director Vic Donoho. "The loss of one life is too many. We ask all Tennesseans to put the brakes on this issue through voluntary compliance. This means wearing seat belts, driving sober, and avoiding distractions like texting while driving."

Last year, Governor Bill Haslam proclaimed October 10 as "Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day" in Tennessee to encourage all citizens to exercise safe driving choices. This year, the THSO worked to spread awareness among youth and local communities.

On October 2, the THSO joined Alpine Crest Elementary School to showcase posters created by Ms. Leora Coleman's fifth-grade class portraying life in Tennessee with zero traffic fatalities.
