David Fowler, President of The Family Action Council of Tennessee (FACT), issued a statement in response to the filing in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals of an Amici Curiae brief in support of Tennessee’s marriage laws by Alliance Defending Freedom on behalf of certain Tennessee state legislators:

"In a day when so many politicians blow with the wind on the issues, the people of Tennessee should be grateful for the 17 state senators and 37 state representatives who, by the brief filed on their behalf, have publicly expressed their support for Tennessee’s laws defining marriage and the vote of 81% of the voters in 2006 for that definition."

"These legislators understand that the uniqueness of the institution of marriage recognized for millennia across the globe is important to the well-being of the children who will become our state’s strength in the years to come. And they understand that the state must retain the historical and constitutional right under the Tenth Amendment to determine what family policies best advance our state’s interest and protect the will of the people expressed through a public vote."
