The National Orpheus Vocal Competition will be held on the Campus of MTSU Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

The National Orpheus Vocal Competition will be held on the Campus of MTSU Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (March 8, 9, 10). A total of 74 out of 106 applicants have been picked to participate. These young people come from about  18 different States to compete for cash prizes amounting to about $17,000, which are given by different individuals. The finals for the competition are open to the public on Sunday afternoon at MTSU.

Contestants coming from Ca, Tx, Fl, Ga, Al, La, In, Il, NC,SC, NJ, Oh, Wi, Ma, NY, Ct, Ok, Tn. They will be competing in two categories – Student (ages 19-24) and Young Artist Category (ages 25-30). 

The Judges are Dr. Ted Wylie, Professor of Voice from Belmont University,  John Kramar, from East Carolina University and Chautauqua Opera, and John Keene, from Florida Grand Opera.


Dr. Raphael Bundage, from the MTSU Music Department is the Artistic Director for  the Competition.  

The finals are THIS SUNDAY (3/10/13):


The Finals for the Competition is Sunday, March 10 at 3 p.m. at the Wright Music Hall. The public is invited to come and hear these wonderful young people sing.

Tickets are available at the door for $10 for Adults, $9 for Senior Citizens and $ 8 for Children, ages 12 and under.  

This Competition is Sponsored by the Middle Tennessee Choral Society and MTSU Music Department.
