A middle-school age girl "got lucky" by suffering minor only injuries when a tree toppled over and trapped her during a storm Monday on Kingwood Lane, a Sheriff's Office deputy said.

The girl was taking out the garbage when a tree with split branches fell with one branch catching her arm between one branch and the garbage can, said Deputy Lawson Royal.

"She really got lucky because when the tree fell, she was between the branches," Deputy Royal said.

With help from her family, Deputy Royal used a saw to cut the branches and trash can to free her. She was treated by paramedics and taken to the hospital for treatment.

"It was so comforting to do this" and rescue her, Deputy Royal said.
