Middle Tennessee Electric, in partnership with the Tennessee Environmental Council (TEC), planted trees around an MTEMC property in Rutherford County in celebration of Earth Day.

"Today is an important day," said Cathy Mitchell, community relations coordinator for MTEMC. "By planting these trees today, and working in cooperation with the Tennessee Environmental Council, we are able to give back for years to come."

Employees from the Murfreesboro Office joined Matt Brown from TEC as well as MTE certified arborists for the celebration. The arborists showed volunteers how to properly plant and care for the trees as well as provide information on planting near rights-of-way.

"We understand the importance of planting trees not only on Earth Day, but throughout the year," said Mitchell. "Our arborists work hard to educate our members on how and where to plant trees."

The trees planted today were purchased by funds donated from the MTE Customers Care board.

The Tennessee Environmental Council focuses on educating and advocating for the conservation and improvement of Tennessee's environment, communities, and public health. More information can be found at www.tectn.org.
