REPORTS FROM LAST NIGHT and THUR. AM: Low Flying Helicopter

August 13, 2009

WGNS has received several calls in regards to an accident that was reported early Thursday morning on Highway 96 near Compton Road. Evidently, one vehicle was overtunred in the wreck. The Highway Patrol told our news department that one person was transported to Middle Tennessee Medical Center with non life threatning injuries. In other calls to the station, we have had several in regards to a low flying helicopter. The helicopter was said to be within 15 to 25-feet of the roof of some homes in the Barfield Community. Calls to the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Nashville Metro Police Department have confirmed that they did not use Life Flight or the Metro helicopter in the Murfreesboro area. When aerial drug searches are conducted, the Metro Police Department is often called in to work with other departments. That does not appear to be the case.

If you heard a helicopter over your home or in your neighborhood late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning, we encourage you to comment below.

While my wife was on her way to work this morning , she called to tell me she had seen a solid black helicoper with no markings at all raise above the tree tops, as it was taking off from the Barfield Park area. This was about 6:05AM.

After it was above the treetops, she said it headed in a southwestly direction in what appeared to be a high rate of speed as it was rapidly trying to gain altitude, as if they didn’t want to be seen, or be seen as little as possible.

Yes. My wife and I think that it was hovering right over our rooftop. It was so loud and violent that it shook the entire house. We couldn’t see it, but heard it and believe it was only a few feet from landing on our roof.

I called the non-emergency police number and asked if anyone else had called it into their department and she said, “No.”. This evening we asked one of our neighbors and they did not hear a thing. There is no way they couldn’t because it was so loud it literally shook the house.

Has there been anymore findings on this, yet?
