All students are safe, but a situation was addressed at Oakland High School Thursday afternoon by the administration and the school resource officer.

During a routine check of student parking permits, an administrator discovered a strong smell of marijuana coming from a student's car. The male student was brought to the vehicle and the vehicle was searched. Inside the trunk, they discovered a book bag that contained marijuana and two handguns.

The county schools confirmed that the 17-year old student has been expelled from Oakland under the school district's zero tolerance policy and has been arrested by the school resource officer.

Rutherford County Schools Spokesperson James Evans stated, "We know these situations can be frightening for parents and students, but we want to ensure parents know that no threats were made against any students and the school staff followed all safety procedures to resolve the situation. Maintaining safe environments for our students is our top priority."
