Unemployment Picture Improving

Employment opportunities in Rutherford County continue to improve. In fact, that's happening across the Volunteer State. Tennessee unemployment rates for August 2012, show the workers without jobs decreased in 90 counties, increased in two, and stayed the same in three.

Unemployment in Rutherford County was down 1.2 per cent from the July figures. August unemployment locally was 7.0 per cent. When you focus on the local municipalities, Murfreesboro had 7.4 per cent of the workforce without jobs in August, 2012. Smyrna did better with 7.2. La Vergne scored best with 7.1 per cent.

Neighboring counties unemployment rates show Williamson had the lowest with 5.9 per cent, Wilson was 6.9, Davidson had 7.4, Cannon was next with 7.6, Coffee recorded 7.8, Dekalb at 8.2, and Bedford was the neighbor with the most persons out of work with 9.2 unemployment.

Knox County had the state’s lowest major metropolitan rate of 6.7 percent, unchanged from the July rate.  Davidson County was 7.4 percent, unchanged from the previous month. Hamilton County was 7.7 percent, down from 8.4 percent, and Shelby County was 9.0 percent, down from 9.7 percent in July.
