A 4-year-old boy accidentally drowned during a birthday party Saturday at a Rutherford County home, sheriff's officers said.
Victim Evan Sayvone, 4, of Smyrna, died at St. Thomas Hospital, reported Deputy Matt Kunce.
Detective Lt. Todd Sparks said Evan apparently slipped outside during the party, got around the pool's decking and gate and entered the water during the party at a home at Pinnacle Hills Drive. Another child discovered Evan in the water.
"He had been in there probably several minutes," Lt. Sparks said.
Nurse practitioner Elizabeth Synthavong immediately started cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Evan.
"It was just a horrible accident," Lt. Sparks said.
