A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a convicted felon who was allegedly believed to be in possession of multiple guns and ammunition this past weekend.

Verbatim: Murfreesboro Police say they approached two men in a truck that was parked in the rear of the Mapco gas station on South Church Street near I-24. As officers drove up to the truck, the driver quickly exited and walked away before police approached the vehicle. The man who remained with the truck told Officer Johnson that 32-year old John Lennon Pickelsimer, “was just dropping him off.” Several other officers in the area searched for Pickelsimer, but turned up empty handed.

Police found multiple guns in the truck. Officers say they retrieved a fully loaded SKS rifle with one bullet in the chamber, a pistol grip shotgun with four shells in it and the safety “off,” a fully loaded pistol under the seat with the safety “off,” 131 rounds of ammunition for the SKS, 49 rounds of .44 magnum ammo, 55-rounds of .22-caliber bullets and 22-shotgun shells. Authorities then contacted the rightful owner of the truck and she advised, “she did not have any guns in the truck.” She said, “Mr. Pickelsimer must have put them in there.” The owner of the vehicle was allowed to retrieve her truck and police took possesion of the weapons. The passenger who, stuck around and talked to police, was not charged with any wrongdoing.

The supplement report filed on Saturday shows that Picklesimer is a convicted felon for arson and burglary. The warrant filed for his arrest was for a felon being in possession of a weapon or weapons. According to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, Picklesimer has not been arrested as of Monday afternoon (2/25/13).

Previous report (Correction)

During a previous report we mislabeled the SKS rifle as an assault rifle. That is not the case. According to SKSstocks.com, “The SKS is not considered an assault rifle because it lacks selective fire capability and a removable magazine. The basic design is semi-automatic with a fixed magazine.”  They also note, “SKS stands for Samozaryadniy Karabin sistemi Simonova.” The gun was originally Soviet produced, but later produced by other countries and since 1945, over 15-million have been made, according to MilitaryFactory.com.
