DUI suspect Andron Reed dies at hospital
August 17, 2009
More on the death of an 18-year old who was being booked Friday (8/14/09) at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on DUI charges.
Andron Ramer Reed was arrested due as a result of a high-speed chase on I-24 this past Friday afternoon (10/14/09). The highway patrol reports Reed’s vehicle exceed speeds of 100 miles per hour, and ended with a crash near the Buchanan Road exit.
Reports indicate that Reed refused treatment at-the-scene, and was arrested and charged with evading arrest in a motor vehicle (a felony); two counts of reckless endangerment with a weapon; DUI; resisting arrest; two counts of assault and violation of the implied consent law.
Officials explained the reasoning behind some the Reckless endangerment charges. This refers to Reed’s vehicle hitting the truck in which two other persons were traveling. In this case, the “weapon” is considered the car in which the Memphis man was driving.
Authorities say that during the booking process at the local jail, the Memphis man reportedly refused to cooperate with jailers. It was later learned that he allegedly fought and bit both troopers in an effort to avoid being arrested.
Authorities say that Andron Ramer Reed again became combative during the booking process and refused to give deputies the information they requested. During this time he lost consciousness. Nurses at the sheriff’s office were not able to revive him. He was transported to Middle Tennessee Medical Center where he died Saturday (10/15/09).
His parents claim that Reed was soon to be a student at Middle Tennessee State University. However, Dr. Sidney McPhee checked with Admissions and there is no record of anyone with that name having had contact with MTSU.
Reed’s older brother, Artavius Rashaun Reed, was charged with resisting arrest. The 23-year old was released and is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on September 25th.

Got something to say?

This all could have been avoided if the young man would have pulled over and cooperated with the authorities….now a family and community are mourning the lost of this young man. Parents should read this story and take note that their involvement is crucial. My prayers and thoughts with the family who lost a son.
WGNS did talk (live) to the President of MTSU about the victim’s family claim that he was a MTSU student. McPhee said that after extensive research Reed was not and never been a student at MTSU. There was no record that he had ever attempted to register as a student.
More often than not WGNS gets their story before most media and does a fair and honest job of reporting. Mistakes have been made in every media. Sometimes they are caught and sometimes not. The reporting of the death of Steve McNair was constantly being revised and most media had different stories. Give the reporters some slack. It has to be a tough job.
his parents never claimed he was a student a mtsu!!. and he was on his way to visit his aunt in atlanta when the police decided to harass him and his brother…i dont care if he didnt want to listen or whatever, that still does not give anyone the right to take away his life, he was only eighteen ready to start trade school NOT MTSU it didnt take eighteen guys on this one teenager, but only GOD knows how to handle this.R.I.P ANDRON REED
that was very trifling for somebody to put their hands on someone. it didn’t take 18 storng men to put their hands on him and kill him. one day i hope they realize what they did and something happens to them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
