UPDATE: Friday Night Homicide Behind E. Northfield Business; Victim Identified

We have some new information in the investigation into the shooting death of a 58-year old Bentley Street man.

Murfreesboro Police Officer Cory Schalburg reports finding Fausto Hernandez in the rear of the building on 1208 Northfield Boulevard, slumped over a rock. He says he found the subject with blood on his shirt and two cans of Coors Light beer below his slumped body.

Once EMS arrived, Schalburg reports he turned over the body and saw a gunshot wound below his right nipple. Hernandez was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where he later died from his wounds.

Murfreesboro Police Detectives Jacob Fountain and Timothy Harris are investigating the murder. The public is being asked to relay any information they may have into the homicide to authorities, no matter how insignificant they believe it could be.

Police are also trying to identify the person in the vehicle who was photographed by surveillance cameras leaving the area last Friday night. We have that photo online at WGNSRadio.com. Detective note the subject is not a suspect, but a possible witness.

The murder occurred at 1208 East Northfield Boulevard, it is a row of businesses with a pizza take-out, discount tobacco and video store near the intersection with North Tennessee Boulevard.

A man is dead after being found shot behind businesses on East Northfield Boulevard and the public's help is needed.

Murfreesboro Police spokesman Sgt. Kyle Evans tells NewsRadio WGNS just after 9:30 Friday night (July 15th), officers responded to 1208 East Northfield Boulevard in reference to a Hispanic male suffering from a severe gunshot wound. The victim was located behind the building.

The victim has been identified as 58-year old Fausto Hernandez of 1411 Bentley Street.

Evans says Hernandez was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Trauma Unit, where he later died from his injuries. He adds witnesses reported hearing the gunshot around 9:30pm.

Evans says detectives need anyone who heard the gun shots, any yelling, or was at that location between 9:00 PM and 9:40 PM to please call them. He adds any information, no matter how small, could help detectives solve the murder.

Police are also trying to identify the person in the vehicle who was photographed by surveillance cameras leaving the area in which the homicide occurred. We have that photo online at WGNSRadio.com. Detective note the subject is not a suspect, but a possible witness.
