UPDATE: MPD Motorcycle Officer Injured in Crash on Memorial

We have an update on the Murfreesboro Police motorcycle officer, hurt in a crash on Memorial Boulevard near Sports*Com. Officer Matthew Stern was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center after sustaining serious injuriies.

Sgt. Kyle Evans tells NewsRadio WGNS Stern is in serious but stable condition and he's scheduled to undergo several surgeries over the next several days. He adds Stern, who has been a motorcycle officer with the city for the past nine-years, was responding to an injury crash on I-24 at South Church Street when he and another vehicle collided on Memorial.

The crash is being investigated by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Evans says the department would like to thank the Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department, Rutherford County EMS, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and all of those involved in the response to this crash.

PREVIOUSLY REPORTED

Memorial Boulevard had to be shut down due to an injury accident involving a Murfreesboro Police Officer riding a patrol motorcycle. The wreck happened on Thursday (7/13/17) afternoon around 2:15 PM.

After the wreck, paramedics with the Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services drove the officer to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, escorted by a Murfreesboro Police officer.

Injured in the accident was MPD Officer Matthew Stern. The wreck happened as he was responding to a call. As of 6:30 Thursday evening, he was listed in stable condition, however he did have serious internal injuries.

A report from a witness suggests that an older man driving a vehicle hit the MPD officer who was operating the patrol motorcycle. The accident occurred in front of the Kroger Store on Memorial Blvd just down from Adams Place.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the accident.
