UPDATE: Murfreesboro Police say that 19 Guns were turned in on Thursday at Guns for Gift Cards Event

(UPDATE) The Murfreesboro Police Department partnered with the Murfreesboro NAACP and the Central Christian Church on Thursday in an effort to get guns off the street (1/17/13). We talked to Police Sgt. Kyle Evans about the event and he told us that no questions were asked of those turning in the guns. He did say that the serial numbers on the guns would be researched or investigated. To research the serial number, police will run the guns identity code through the National Crime Information Center database.

Chief Glenn Chrisman stated “Due to the success of our first event, we are tentatively planning on having another one in the spring. We want to make our community as safe an environment as possible.” 

Major Clyde Adkison told us that 19-guns were collected Thursday. Of the guns collected, there were seven (7) rifles, two (2) shotguns, six (6) semi-auto pistols and four (4) revolvers.
