In support of this effort, participating officers and detectives donated money to the American Cancer Society in order for the Chief of Police to waive the department’s policy regarding shaving during the month of November.

Sergeant Tim Higgins, Detective Doug Arrington, Officer Mark Moghaddam, Officer Joshua Meredith, and Officer Bill Drye were nominated by their respective divisions and shifts to be considered for the “Best Beard Award”.  After reviewing each of the officers’ beards, City Manager Rob Lyons selected Officer Joshua Meredith as having the Department’s “Best Beard”.

Officer Joshua Meredith was presented with a certificate for the “Best Beard Award” and he, Chief Glenn Chrisman and City Manager Rob Lyons then met at Drakes Barber Shop where the owner, Jason Rigney, gave each a free shave.

“Police Officers help our community every day, but today is special because it is the culmination of a month of raising awareness and funds to support the American Cancer Society” said Chief of Police Glenn Chrisman.  “Officers never stop helping the community in which they serve and this was an opportunity to do something out of the ordinary that will help make a difference in cancer research.”
