UPDATE: Police Pursuit in Smyrna Ends in Deadly Crash

A Nashville teen is dead and three others are hurt after a single vehicle crash which ended after a Smyrna Police pursuit. It happened around 2am (Monday) morning near Rock Springs Road. The deceased teenager who died in the wreck has been identified as 19 year old Kevonte Jernigan of Nashville. Police started to pursue the vehicle following an attempted burglary at Smyrna Pawn and Gun on Front Street.

After the wreck, three teens were taken to Stonecrest Medical Center and of the three one had to be transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center for more extensive treatment. The search continues for three additional teens who fled the scene.

During the pursuit police deployed stop strips in an attempt to apprehend the burglary suspects. About a half-mile after hitting the spike strips, the truck crashed into a ravine after hitting a utility pole.

Two firearms were recovered at the crash site and at least one was reported stolen.
