The mother of the two children who were found dead in Smyrna on Thursday afternoon has been charged with two counts of especially aggravated child abuse. Charged in the deaths was 25-year old Samantha Harper (below). She is being held under a $250,000 bond.

The children, ages 2 and 3, evidently died of a heat stroke after getting trapped in the family car. The incident occurred at a home on the Old Nashville Highway.

The mother allegedly placed her two small children in the car and then walked back inside of her home and fell asleep.

When police arrived at the home at around 3:45, Thursday afternoon, they found the two children laying outside the car. Apparently, someone pulled the children out of the car after finding them passed out.

The house, on the Old Nashville Highway, was recently condemned by Smyrna Codes Enforcement. Reports indicate that food and trash were found throughout the structure.

More charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
