UPDATED: City Officer Accused of Accepting Kickbacks

April 1, 2009

image We know more about why Murfreesboro Police motorcycle officer Wade Hatfield was decommissioned. It came after the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation accused him of possibly accepting kickbacks. He began working for the M-P-D in 2004 and prior to that was with the LaVergne, Lakewood and Berry Hill Police Departments. Hatfield was suspended by Murfreesboro Police back in 2006 for working an outside security job, while still on duty. Accusations of racial remarks while with the LaVergne Police Department were made during his tenure there, but Hatfield was cleared of any wrongdoing.  Police spokesperson Kyle Evans notes under the decommission order, Hatfield can not wear a badge, uniform, carry a weapon, be on city property or do any off-duty security work.
