November 9, 2009
Metro Police arrested a teenage robbery suspect from Rutherford County. Jaquan Berry, age 18, of LaVergne, has been accused of stealing a woman’s purse in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 3035 Hamilton Church Road in Nashville. After the alleged robbery, the teen reportedly drove away in a green Ford Contour that was previously reported stolen in LaVergne. Berry was followed by a witness who reported the suspect’s direction of flight. Minutes later, South Precinct Officers Donald Richer and Andrew Davis spotted Berry bail from the car in the 6100 block of Blue Hole Court. They took him into custody after a brief foot chase.
During interviews, Berry admitted to the robbery and to stealing the car. The victim’s purse was recovered and returned to her. She positively identified Berry as the robber.
Berry is charged with robbery, theft, evading arrest and driving on a revoked license. He is being held in lieu of $87,000 bond.
