Ideas about what could become of the old First Methodist Church chapel are still abuzz in downtown Murfreesboro. The City of Murfreesboro purchased the property at Church and College Streets from Franklin Synergy bank in 2016 for a little over $1.5 million. One idea that continues to circulate is to use the chapel as an auditorium for the arts.

Patience Long, Director for the Center for the Arts, stated...

The Center for the Arts is directly across the street from the old chapel, which means they could easily have a play in one building and a musical performance in the other building on the same night. Plus, Long told WGNS that if the building was used as an auditorium for performances, little would have to be changed. That of course means the historical structure would for the most part, be preserved. Some of the existing structure dates back to 1888.

The city allowed for companies and organizations to submit proposals on what they would like to offer in the building during the first part of the year and the window to submit proposals closed on April 3, 2017.
