The Sixth Annual Wine Around the Square (WATS) is THIS Saturday, September 16, 2017. It will be held on the Murfreesboro square between 6 and 9 PM.

Wine around the square is a progressive wine-tasting event set around the historic Downtown Square in Murfreesboro. Puckett's Family Restaurant will kick off the festivities by sponsoring a fantastic VIP party. Thanks to Stones River Total Beverages, a wide variety of wines will be available for your sampling throughout the evening. Generous local restaurants will provide a delicious dinner for all attendees. Many downtown businesses will be open for after-hours shopping.

A "Late Party" will be held this coming Saturday night from 9 to midnight on September 16th.

Money raised at the annual event will go to the Saint Thomas Rutherford Foundation Power of Pink Fund. The financies provide mammography for underinsured and uninsured women in Rutherford County, including screenings, diagnostics, ultrasounds and MRIs. The Fund raised over $275,000 in fiscal year 2017 (FY17), July 2016 to June 2017; Wine Around the Square 2016 raised $200,595.35, providing approximately 73% of this funding.

During FY17, the Power of Pink Fund sponsored:

• 540 procedures, including 295 screening mammograms, 131 diagnostic mammograms, 111 breast ultrasounds and 3 breast MRIs.
• $15,000 in annual funding for a Nurse Navigator who assists Rutherford County women throughout their breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery process.
• $16,459.56 in maintenance and operational expenses for the Mobile Mammography Coach.

Continued support of Wine Around the Square is critical to sustaining the Power of Pink Fund.

Music/Entertainment: The Marshall Creek Band will entertain guests around the Courthouse. For the first year, Ross Lester's Everybody Drum Some will perform and encourage guests to participate. The Center for the Arts also will provide short outdoor performances on the Square. The Late Party will showcase live music from Mixtape.

Food: WATS 2017 will feature a hearty farm-to-table buffet supper. Chef Alex Belew will prepare the main course with pork provided by generous donors GFS, Batey Farms, and an anonymous gift in honor of Jimmy Palmer. The Tasty Table, Station Grill, Slick, Pig, Five Senses, The Alley on Main, and Christie Q BBQ will contribute delicious side dishes. Save room for scrumptious desserts donated by Jack Brown's and Peter D's. Bottled water will be provided by Murfreesboro Pure Milk Company.

Honoree: Marimae Miller White has been selected as The 2017 Saint Thomas Rutherford Foundation Wine Around the Square Honoree. Marimae was selected as the Honoree because of her strength, courage, trust in local physicians, and her willingness to advocate for breast health.

History: Founded in 2010, by Patty Marschel, The Power of Pink Fund provides financial support for women in Rutherford County who lack the resources for breast cancer prevention and the early detection of breast cancer. Now in its sixth year, Wine Around the Square continues to provide the greatest source of funding for the Saint Thomas Rutherford Power of Pink Fund. Over 1,100 Middle Tennessee residents contributed to Wine Around the Square 2016, raising approximately $200,595.35. As the population of Rutherford County grows, so does the need to provide funding for mammography access in our community.
