A 29 year old prisoner from Louisiana is currently behind bars in nearby Wilson County. The subject has been arrested on 10 counts of "Statutory Rape."
Jayson Weberbeghtel appeared in a Wilson County courtroom to hear the charges against him that stem from a case in 2006. At the time, he was only 19 years of age. However, 10 years ago he was arrested and sentenced to spend time behind bars in Louisiana for a similar crime.
In Tennessee, a subject can be charged with statutory rape when the victim is at least 13 years of age and the defendant is at least 4 years older than the victim.
According to law, the offense is a class E felony which could carry a sentence of up to 6 years in prison. In other words, the suspect could soon spend up to 60 years in a Tennessee prison if he is convicted.
He has entered a not guilty plea. His trial date has been set for Sept. 29, 2016.
