The La Vergne Police Department was recently recognized by the Tennessee Highway Safety Office, for their efforts in DUI enforcement. In November, La Vergne Officers arrested 244 people for Driving Under the Influence. This is a 41.1% year-to-year increase in arrests for DUI, compared to the 168 arrested in November 2015. In 2016, the LPD has also experienced an increase in DUI arrests by separate cause: alcohol by 38.5%, drugs by 78.8%, and both alcohol and drugs combined by 32.3%. For all of their hard work, LPD was presented with the 2016 DUI Enforcement Award.

There are no plans to slow down, either. LPD will be hitting the roads this holiday season to make sure drivers are behaving. La Vergne Officers will utilize sobriety checkpoints, "alcohol saturation patrols," and aggressive traffic enforcement to locate drunk or drugged driving violators on La Vergne's streets and highways.

La Vergne Police Chief Mike Walker said, "I am very proud of the members of the La Vergne Police Department, and for their selection as the Law Enforcement Agency in Middle Tennessee for this honor and recognition. As a result of their increased and enhanced training, we are making more arrests for DUI as a result of drugs other than ethyl alcohol, as well as ethyl alcohol combined with other drugs. Our Patrol Officers, Patrol Supervisors, and Patrol Commanders work very hard to keep our community as safe as possible, and this certainly includes drivers who choose to drink and/or take drugs and operate a motor vehicle our streets and highways!" LPD will have additional officers working this holiday's season. So this is your warning - 'Booze It & Lose It!'"
