66 Year old Smyrna man charged with multiple counts of rape and battery

An investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in the arrest of a 66-year old Smyrna man, who is charged with multiple counts of rape and battery.

At the request of 16th District Attorney General Jennings Jones, on August 18th, TBI Agents began investigating allegations of sex abuse of a juvenile victim in Rutherford County. During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information that J.C. Meeks, a friend of the family, was responsible for the sexual assault of the juvenile multiple times between 2012 and 2016.

On Wednesday, the Rutherford County Grand Jury returned indictments charging J.C. Meeks (DOB 7/24/1951) with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Battery, two counts of Rape of a Child, five counts of Statutory Rape by an Authority Figure, one count of Aggravated Rape, one count of Sexual Battery by an Authority Figure, two counts of Aggravated Assault, and one count of Casual Exchange of Schedule II to a Minor. Meeks was arrested Friday morning and booked into the Rutherford County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
