An 81 year old man who was charged with the sexual battery of a child under the age of 13 will appear in court to file a plea on July 28, 2016. Sammy Pierce who lived in Smyrna, was picked up on Friday, April 8th by Smyrna Police.

Sergeant Bobby Gibson with the Smyrna Police Department told WGNS, "On April 7th, Smyrna Police were notified of a possible crime involving Sammy J. Pierce where he was suspected of touching a child under the age of 13 in a sexual manner. An investigation was initiated and Mr. Pierce was interviewed about the incident. Mr. Pierce confessed to the crime and on April 8th he was charged/arrested for Aggravated Sexual Battery."

Pierce remains behind bars at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center in Murfreesboro at this time. Reports indicate he has been appointed a Public Defender. Once in court to file his plea, he will face three charges of Aggravated Sexual Battery and one charges of Sexual Battery by an Authority Figure.
