Detectives with Murfreesboro Police and the state Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities are investigating the sexual assault of an 81-year old Murfreesboro woman.

MPD Officer David Ladouceur reports on Friday he was called to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. He says the female victim was taken to Murfreesboro Medical Clinic for a routine checkup when bruising around the woman's genitalia area was noticed. She was then taken to the hospital.

The officer noted the victim is mentally challenged and non-verbal. She did nod yes when Ladouceur asked her if she'd been sexually assaulted. He was unable to gather further information due to her condition.
