A group of 8th grade students from Middle Tennessee Christian School had a sudden change of plans on their Washington, D.C. trip this week when the federal government shut down. Trips to the Smithsonian museums… cancelled. The students left for Washington earlier this week and are set to return by Friday.

According to the Smithsonian, “Due to the federal government shutdown, all Smithsonian museums and the National Zoo are closed.”

We talked to the parent of 8th grade student Drew Dyer on Tuesday night who told us, “It's ironic that this is happening. In Dec of '95, I took a trip to DC and the same thing happened.” Clay Dyer told WGNS that despite the setbacks of museum’s closing this week, the trip will continue and the kids are having fun.
