(MURFREESBORO) Shortly after 1:00 o'clock Thursday afternoon, a construction crew hit a gas main while digging on the roadside, across from Siegel Middle School. Middle School students were taken next door to Siegel High. At the end of the day, parents picked them up there. Siegel Middle School will be OPEN FRIDAY!

Since the ruptured gas line was immediately beside the heavily traveled West Thompson Lane, that section of roadway was closed to traffic for several hours and units from Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue were placed at the scene until the repair was made.

Rutherford County Schools' Communications and Community Relations Coordinator James Evans explained, "As a safety precaution, all of the Siegel Middle students were moved to the adjoining Siegel High School campus where parents could pick them up."

ATMOS Energy capped the gas line and the "all safe" was given.

Evans stressed, "Siegel Middle School will be open Friday."
