MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS News) - Rutherford County Farmers Market Manager Hannah Bleam told WGNS News that there will be an evening market, Tuesday, July 7, from 2:00-7:00PM. It will offer a full afternoon of farm-fresh shopping. And yes—bring your best aim—because the always‑popular watermelon seed‑spitting contest launches at 5:00PM, giving families a chance to compete for bragging rights in true summertime fashion.
Special Dates for Toddler's Program - Bleam also highlighted the return of the market’s free toddler program, Agventurers, an agriculturally themed class for ages 1-6. Those sessions will be held July 14th, 21st, and 28th at 9AM and 10:15AM inside the market. No registration is needed, just show up ready for hands‑on fun.
All Tuesdays in August 2:00-7:00PM - Looking ahead, families who enjoy late‑day outings will have plenty to circle on the calendar. All Tuesdays in August will be evening markets, complete with a full “back‑to‑school” event lineup designed for after‑work and after‑school participation. It’s part of the market’s ongoing effort to make local agriculture accessible to more residents by offering hours beyond the traditional morning schedule.
As always, admission is free, and all ages are welcome. Visitors can enjoy a relaxed, indoor setting while shopping for locally grown produce, honey, meats, plants, bushes, and trees. And remember - when there is an afternoon/evening market, the regular 7AM-noon morning market does not take place.
The Rutherford County Farmers Market is located at 315 John R. Rice Blvd., Murfreesboro, and operates year‑round: Tuesdays and Fridays from May - October, and Fridays only from November - April.
