MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - The Murfreesboro Police Department invites families across the city to come out on Tuesday (August 4th) and enjoy an evening of fun, food, and community connection during this year’s National Night Out celebration. The free event takes place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening, August 4th, at the Patterson Park Community Center, located at 521 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

National Night Out is a long-running, nationwide effort designed to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the neighborhoods they serve. For Murfreesboro, it is a chance to bring people together in a relaxed, family-friendly setting where conversations come easily and kids can explore the world of first responders up close.

This year’s celebration will feature a Touch-A-Truck experience, giving children the chance to climb aboard police vehicles and other equipment while meeting the officers who use them every day. Parks & Recreation staff will join in with games and activities, and families can enjoy music, food, and plenty of space to mingle and enjoy the evening.

Officers say events like this help build trust in ways that do not always happen during a routine call or a quick interaction on the street. Residents will have the chance to meet Murfreesboro police officers, ask questions, and learn more about the department’s work in the community.

Lt. Jason Higgins, who coordinates the event, says National Night Out is one of the department’s favorite traditions. “This is a great opportunity for residents to meet the officers who serve their neighborhoods and enjoy a fun evening together,” Higgins said. “National Night Out is about building relationships, strengthening trust, and bringing our community together.”

Organizers encourage families to stop by on Tuesday (August 4th), bring the kids, and enjoy a summer evening focused on connection, safety, and community pride. It is a simple way to get to know the people who help keep Murfreesboro safe and to celebrate the neighborhoods that make the city feel like home.
