MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) - Murfreesboro’s Historic Downtown Square is no stranger to big crowds, lively gatherings, and the kind of hometown energy that makes a summer evening feel electric. The Square will again take center stage as the 5th Annual Murfreesboro Hot Chicken Festival fires up on tonight ( Saturday, 7/25/2026) from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Tonight, instead of wagon wheels and storefront chatter, the Square will echo with live music, laughter, and the unmistakable aroma of Nashville‑style heat.
Admission is free, making it an easy choice for families and friends looking to enjoy Murfreesboro’s growing food scene. Seven competitors—Bill's Hot Fish & Chicken, Bombi, Creative Culinary Creations LLC, Hurt's Hot Chicken, Lilly's Hot Chicken, Momma Joy's Hot Chicken, and Southern Spoon—will serve up their best recipes as they compete for Best in the BORO, Hottest of the Hot, and Most Creative. The People’s Choice Competition adds an interactive twist, giving guests the chance to sample each vendor’s creation and vote for their favorite. Tasting tickets are limited and encouraged to be purchased in advance.
Organizer Mylikia Franklin says the event has become a celebration of both community and culinary tradition, bringing people together on a square that has always been Murfreesboro’s gathering place.
From its historic courthouse to its modern festivals, the Downtown Square continues to prove that it’s still the city’s front porch—just a much spicier on July 25.
